-- and a live shot at downtown san francisco. i'm here in the kron-4 weather center with meteorologist brian van aken. so brain -- how much colder is it going to get? >> is going to get a lot colder which the 20's and the north bay. if 30's by the bay. a right now it is already pretty chilly. 40's towards hayward, the coolest spots and in santa rosa. even if 30's, 39 degrees in vallejo. taking a look at futurecast by 11:00 p.m. tonight we will see temperatures drop. 40's by the bay. watch for the pink throughout the night for the east bay. fairfield, concord, and the north bay looking at 20's. for the rest of tonight look at temperatures to drop. sunrise, is when we will start to see the coolest readings. mid upper 20s for the north bay valleys. below freezing for the east bay. 30's by the bay. san francisco, 41 and it is going to be another cold night for new year's eve. extra clouds in the evening. temperatures in the 40's. look for clear skies, cold temperatures, low 40's for the day. mid 30's inland and what you can expect for the first few days of 2013. >>> at least nine people are dead aft
you george knew this morning to people are in hospital after to alarm fire in san francisco. >> the fire breaking out about 1:00 this morning. let us turn to jackie sissell live on the scene. >> pg&e crews are live try to fix a gas line that was structured during the fire. >> you can see them duo ing the password. >> it looks to be destroyed from the fire. the fire broke out around 1:00 this morning and went to two alarms. according to one pg&e person he says the gas line had ruptured. they are waiting for pg&e to turn off the gas. once it was turned off they contain the fire to the one unit. this is good news. we are being told that at least two people were sent to a local hospital as what is being described as non life- threatening injuries. this is good news. they are also calling fire suspicious in nature. we anticipate seeing the fire investigators back out here relatively soon. a lot of activity going on here. as soon as we did new information we will tell you more. >> thank you jackie we will check with you throughout the morning. >> a man is been injured in a shootin

at the san francisco department of public works says the road floods because the drains cannot handle all of the water, especially during a powerful storm. drivers are being forced to take the lower great highway route. the northbound side is still open. officials say the highway closes about 60 times a year, its not known when the southbound side will re-open. >> the storm also brought down a massive tree in the east bay. this one fell right on the footsteps of the delta chi fraternity house on channing way in berkeley. the 90-footer took out some communications cables on its' way down. but other than that the damage was minimal. however when the tree fell it loosened the soil of a neighboring tree.that had to be removed for safety reasons. >> in the sierra. it was another snowy day with drivers facing chain restrictions and slick roads through the higher elevations. this is video from placer county. where last night caltrans had to shut down interstate 80 several times. because of the dangerous driving conditions. kron 4's charles clifford has an update on how things are looking now. >>

[ male announcer ] only from at&t. san francisco's public schools are on high security alert after today's massacre at a connecticut elementary. kron 4's alecia reid tells us what the city's school district is doing to help keep its students safe. but o >> classes went on as scheduled at city schools today, but the san francisco school district was on high alert. no chances were being taken after the massacre in newtown connecticut, that left more than 2 dozen people dead --- most of them children. it's epidemic you know, with these mass murders, and we have to assure our children that's exactly what the city is doingthe district is allowing parents to speak to their children about the tragedy first, but assured them that counselors are ready to help. children, especially younger children are going to need some extra support, so be comforting make sure to talk to him about it because we talk to him about everything else. the amoun >> the san francisco school superintendent says schools are doing everything possible to keep children safe. after today
